The Du Celebrates Grandparents: A Tribute to Bill Withers
In March of 2020, the world said goodbye to one of America’s most cherished musical storytellers, Mr. Bill Withers. Classics such as “Lean on Me,” “Ain’t No Sunshine,” and “Lovely Day,” are just a few of his musical hits that stand the test of time.
In honor of Grandparents Day, The DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center will host a live webinar with Mrs. Marcia Withers, Bill’s beloved wife. She and Joel Harper have worked to create a children’s book using the lyrics from Bill Withers’ song Grandma’s Hands! As you may remember, the song tells the beautiful story of a grandmother’s love. In continuation of the rich legacy left by her husband’s music, Mrs. Withers will share stories to help us continue the tradition and work of celebrating love and elders, through storytelling.
Date: Sunday, September 7, 2025
