HIV/AIDS in Black Chicago: A Conversation with Celeste Watkins-Hayes and Rae Lewis-Thornton

Join us on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at the DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center for a powerful evening of dialogue, reflection, and community engagement.
Sociologist and University of Michigan Dean Celeste Watkins-Hayes, author of Remaking a Life: How Women Living with HIV/AIDS Confront Inequality, will be in conversation with Rae Lewis-Thornton, Emmy Award-winning AIDS activist who bravely shared her story on the cover of Essence magazine in 1994.
Together, they’ll explore the lived experiences of Black women impacted by HIV/AIDS and the urgent need to address racial disparities in care and prevention.
