Established in 1983 by Mrs. Peggy Montes and Mrs. Velma Wilson, The DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center Women’s Board is dedicated to supporting and advancing the mission of the nation’s oldest independent Black history museum. Through fundraising, advocacy, and community engagement, the Women’s Board has proudly contributed over $1 million to sustain the museum’s educational programs, exhibits, and cultural initiatives that celebrate and preserve African American history, art, and achievement.
Each year in December, the Women’s Board hosts The Glitz—an elegant holiday gala and signature fundraising event that brings together supporters from across the region to honor the legacy of Dr. Margaret T. Burroughs. Proceeds from The Glitz directly fund impactful exhibits and educational programs that inspire understanding, pride, and appreciation of African American culture for generations to come.
Lead continuous $1 million fundraising campaign for Museum.
Volunteers at Museum to assist membership initiatives and operational support.
Provides free Museum passes to schools and families.
Assists the Board of Trustees in elevating Museum’s visibility with community leaders & top executives to inspire ongoing engagement.
