The History of the Black Panther Party with Joshua L. Crutchfield, Ph.D.
October 20, 2026 - October 20, 2026; 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Join The DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center for a special virtual Lunch and Learn exploring the history, impact, and enduring legacy of the Black Panther Party.
Founded in October 1966 by Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale in Oakland, California, the Black Panther Party emerged as a powerful force for political activism, community empowerment, and social change.
Beyond its advocacy, the organization developed groundbreaking community initiatives known as Survival Programs, which provided essential resources such as free breakfast for schoolchildren, medical care, health screenings, and sickle cell testing. The Party also faced extensive government surveillance and disruption through the FBI’s COINTELPRO program.
As we commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Black Panther Party’s founding, historian Joshua L. Crutchfield, Ph.D., will examine the organization’s history, its contributions to Black communities, the challenges it faced, and its lasting influence on movements for social justice.
Don’t miss this opportunity to deepen your understanding of an important chapter in American history.
This program will be held virtually.
