Whisk Broom Weaving with Abeni Pierson
October 25, 2026 - November 10, 2026; 12:00 pm - 12:00 pm

Discover the art and tradition of broom making in this hands-on workshop with Abeni Pierson at The Du!
Explore the history and cultural significance of broom making, from the cultivation of sorghum (broomcorn) to the role of brooms in traditions of labor, ritual, and protection across cultures.
Participants will learn traditional weaving techniques while creating Appalachian-style turkey wing and hawk tail mini brooms using pine needles. Building on these foundational skills, participants will have the opportunity to create a traditional broomcorn whisk broom.
By the end of the workshop, participants will take home 2–3 handcrafted pine needle mini brooms, a finished broomcorn whisk broom, and the skills to continue exploring this timeless craft.
Join us for an engaging afternoon of creativity, craftsmanship, and cultural discovery!
